Many of us write blogs. Blogs could have a lot of purposes – promoting yourself, your business or product, earning money
from ads, or just getting thoughts off your chest. Any purpose you choose – you want people to read your blog, and you
want people to be interested in your blog's content.
In addition to writing your blog's content and making it as interesting as possible, you should actively promote your
blog. You need your blog to be easily found by new readers, and you want the readers to come back to your blog every
time you update it.
Once your new blog is "on air", send all your email contacts a message and tell them about it. Add your blog's url to
your email's signature.
One of the most elementary methods you should use to promote your blog is a mailing list. Create a form in your
blog where your readers can submit their email. Save the list of emails in your email application as a group, and then you
can send them all a message whenever you update your blog. Remember to fill the recipients' addresses in the bcc field,
because many of them don't want their email to be exposed. Remember also to give them a possibility to be removed from
the mailing list, so your messages won't be considered as spam.
Search Engine Optimization (seo) – Make sure your blog is optimized for search engines, in order for your blog to
show up in search engines such as Google. For seo techniques, you can find plenty of articles on the web (you can find an
article I wrote on the subject on this site). Give a deep thought about your titles. Get your blog linked from other
websites, like forums, groups, social networks and so on – the more links, the better.
Facebook – Create a group in Facebook, dedicated to your blog. Invite all your friends to join it. Every time you
update your blog, click "message all members" on your group page, and write them a message. You can look at my Facebook
group as an example:

RSS – Have an rss feed on your blog. You can create one from a simple text file (using the notepad and saving it in
xml format), or you can use a rss creator (various rss creators can be downloaded from the web). Make sure your rss feed
is well formatted, and uses as much fields as you can. In the description field, where you can, add images. Images give a
better look to your rss feed. You can use my rss feed as an example (from the rss feed's browser window, click view - source):

Once your rss feed is ready or updated, submit it, with your blog's title and url, to:
pingomatic.com/.
Pingomatic will update other websites about your blog updates.
Digg – Submit your blog posts to digg.com/. If your post gets 50 diggs in 24
hours, it will show up on the front page, and that means thousands of visitors to your blog. Even if you don't get these
50 diggs, and your post doesn't show up in the front page, it appears in the "incoming" page, and it still gives you a
decent amount of visitors.
Twitter - Tweet your blog posts on Twitter (www.twitter.com).
It can give you dozens of visitors in a matter of seconds. Gaining followers helps, and using popular topics helps too.
